Artemisia absinthium Wormwood
Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) has been used for many years as a remedy for stomach ailments. In more recent years wormwood has become well known for the alcoholic drink called Absinthe. Wormwood contains the chemical Thujone which is apperantly the main contributing factor to the distinct effects Absinthe has on people.
Wormwood has more uses other than medicine and admixtures. It is a very effective insect repellent and can be used in sprays or simply using the dried herb by itself. Companion planting is another way of cutting down on pest species such as grubs. The roots will limit plant growth around them so no need to go crazy with it. The advantage is you will have no weeds growing by your wormwood plants!
