The sap that comes from the skin of unripe mangoes and the stems of the tree contain skin irritants that can react more severely with some people. There may be blistering, swelling of the eyes or face when it contacts people who are hypersensitive. Care should be taken to make sure there is no reaction with the fruit. Rinsing it well before handling is the most common and effective precaution.
When in flower, many people often feel as if they are having "allergies". My wife sufers from this and we just realized it is likely due to mango season as we live in a very heavy mango cultivation area. This is apperantly not due to pollen as the plant is not well adapted for wind pollination, but due to vaporized essential oils containing mangiferol and mangiferone.
