How to get there

The Park is located right on the main Island Highway just outside of Greater Victoria. If in Greater Victoria area taketeh Island Highway North (commonly known as the Malahat). Goldstream park is located just north of Colwood/Langford.

This is a Dawn to Dusk park, no nightime visits are allowed.

The Trails

The main trails follow the stream, which is locally famous in fall for salmon spawning (you can see them REALLY close!). There Is also a small trail on the other side of the highway (if its dry you can walk under the highway wqhere the river goes)that takes you to a fairlytall waterfall. Be very careful crossing the highway, people drive fast.

Safety Concerns

Not many safety concerns. The biggest is probably the highway. If your driving, be very careful entering, and moreso leaving the park. People there always say how dangerous the highway is, but its actu/ally very well built and fine...they just drive too fast and are not cautious.

Attractions

Salmon Spawning is probably the biggest draw of crowds. Best time to see them is October to December, but every years has its best times. With the salmon spawning (great photo and educational oppourtunities!) also brings bald eagles. You can also see them nesting. The nature house often has video cameras/tv hooked up.

At the end of the river there iss a small delta where there are many birds to see.

Also at the endis a small, but excellent nature house with info and people to help you with the park.

There is a tall waterfall on the other side of the highway (you will see a parking area there, follow the trail right there).

Big trees are also a year round attraction. Some quite old and fat cedar trees dot the park, along with lots of maple trees.

In fall (time it right and you can do this at the same time as the salmon spawning, which is magical) the deciduous trees leaves start changing colour and the whole area will be flaming in yellow, orange and red. It's really beautiful!
