Betel Nut: Areca catechu

The seeds of this Areca Palm (Areca catechu) are used throughout the tropics (especially Asia) as a natural stimulant. It is used in a similar way as chewing tobacco. The seeds are the only part used, often mixed with the leaf of the Piper Betel vine (Piper betel). Photo shows raw seeds out of shell.

Seasonality: Availability fluctuates a lot, please inquire.

Acclimating plants from the mail: Plants should be potted in a slightly heavy soil and watered immediately. Place in humid place with fresh air circulation and keep above 20C. Protect from strong light until the plant is about 1 meter tall and keep watered but not soggy to prevent rot. Plants should begin new growth within a few weeks.
