Kada's Garden Farm Specifications

The Taiwan Farm

Location: SW Taiwan, 10km from the mountains. About 22.2 degrees North latitude.

Land Size: 1 Acre

Climate type: Tropical. Dry cool winters, hot wet summers. Humid year round.

Minimum Temp: 9C

Normal Minimum Temp: 15C

Maximum Temp: 38C

Normal Maximum Temp: 35C

Dry Season: October-May, usually. Very dry.

Wet Season: May-Sept.

Min Rainfall in Dry Season: up to 6 months with no rain.

Max Rainfall in worst rains: 200+cm a day in very extreme typhoon. 50+cm a day is common in heavy rains.

Longest flooding period and depth: Usually never more than 1 week of up to 1 meter of water. More commonly around 50cm for a few days multiple in summer.

Soil Type: Heavy, almost clay. PH 7.5-8.

Depth in dry season to reach moist soil: 1m.

Natural Disasters: Earthquakes common, Typhoons June-Sept which cause floods.

Last time sprayed with Chemicals of any kind: Summer, 2005 (round up). This was the previous farmer that sprayed while the farm was rented to them.

On top of our farm we also have 2 rooftop gardens of more rare/sensitive tropical plants, 3 balconies for cactus and a back yard for various annuals. This page does not yet include our farm in Canada which is 5 acres and will be started with plants in 2013.
