Packaging Information

This is how we pack all our products, if you require something different you must email us prior to confirming order.

Seeds

All seeds are send in bubble envelopes unless they are either large seeds or large quantities of seeds, which we then use boxes for.

Seeds that can be stored dry

All dried seeds are placed in various sized zip lock type bags. Some bags may contain some grains of rice to keep moisture down. Larger bags may contain a silica gel pack, also to keep them dry.

Seeds that cannot be dried

Seeds that cannot be dried, mainly tropical species, will be shipped fresh in slightly moistened sphagnum moss placed inside an appropriate sized plastic bag. It is suggested to use EMS for species that cannot store long. If you need EMS you need to mention it through email.

Plants

All plants, with no exception, are shipped bare root. International standards pretty much everywhere do not allow ANY soil to cross the border without some heavy sterilization happening, which plants wouldn’t survive. All plants we export are washed clean of any soil on the roots and plant and are inspected to be 100% pest free.

Cactus & Succulent Plants

Cactus, with the exception of Pereskiopsis which is treated as a leafy plant in shipping, are all shipped bare root and dry. Cactus, unlike other plants, suffer from moist conditions when shipped and will arrive rotting if kept in moss. Plants are almost always shipped bare root, or no root, and dried for 1-2 days under fans, wrapped in newsprint and placed inside the box.

b>Plants using this technique: Cactus (not Pereskiopsis), Aloe sp, Agave sp., other dry loving succulents.

Tropicals and other leafy plants

Plants lose water through their leaves, so in a dark box for up to 2 weeks you need to prevent dehydration. We trim all but the uppermost leaves, and all flowers from the plants prior to shipping. This is standard worldwide for plant exporting. Plants are shipped in varying degrees of moisture, in sphagnum moss inside a plastic bag.

We are not able to ship plants with heat packs, so if its cold there wait until the weather changes. It is hot here year round and are able to ship anytime as per our own local conditions.

Herbs & Non-perishable Items

Either packed into plastic bags (herbal items have silica gel) or wrapped in newsprint and packed into the appropriate sized box.

Packaging and Labeling

Envelopes are usually bubble envelopes used for CDs. Bigger if need be for the order. Boxes are of all different sizes and are plain brown with no markings on them and some staples along the join for strength.

The outside of packages contain 4 things: importing address, return address, stamps and an air mail sticker. EMS and registered have none of these as everything is on the form, with the inclusion of a customs declaration which air mail does NOT have.
